Inserting Sheets
This mode enables you to set the machine to automatically add sheet insertions, chapter pages, or tab paper using a different type of paper from that used for the main document. In addition, you can decide whether the sheet insertions and tab paper are printed on as well. Chapter pages are always printed on.
IMPORTANT
For information on the modes which cannot be set in combination with this mode, see "Unavailable Combination of Functions (Print Function for the Files Stored in a Mail Box)."
This mode can be used only for printing a file stored in a mail box.
You cannot set the Sheet Insertion mode when you select multiple documents. In this case, set the Job Separator mode.
If you select the Staple mode when Staple Finisher or Booklet Finisher is attached, you cannot staple more than 30 sheets of A3 or A4R, or 50sheets of A4 paper, including sheet insertions.
When printing on special types of paper, such as heavy paper or transparencies, be sure to correctly set the paper type, especially if you are using heavy paper. If the type of paper is not set correctly, it could adversely affect the quality of the image. Moreover, the fixing unit may become dirty, or the paper could jam, and a service repair may be needed.
NOTE
If you are printing on the sheet insertions, these sheets are included in the count of the total number of prints made. If these sheets are left blank, however, the machine's counter does not count them as prints.
If you are adding chapter pages and tab paper, these sheets are included in the count of the total number of prints made.
If you want to set both Add Cover and Insert Sheets, select the same paper size.
Sheet Insertion/Chapter Page
This setting inserts a sheet of paper between prints. The Sheet Insertion mode is useful when you want to use a blank sheet to help sort out the prints. You may also print on the sheet insertions. Since the chapter page is always printed on one side, the Chapter Page mode is useful when you want to organize the prints by chapter.

Tab Paper
This setting inserts sheets of tab paper into the prints. This is convenient when sorting the body of documents etc.
To print on the tab paper, set the shift width of the image to be printed on the tabs.
* Area Shifted Out
NOTE
Tab paper is always printed on. If you do not want to print on the tab paper, insert blank sheets of paper in each place where you want the tab paper to go.
When printing on tab paper, check that the position of the tabs is correct.
If you are feeding tab paper from a paper drawer, you must register the paper type in the paper source as tab paper beforehand. (See "Registering the Paper Type for the Paper Source.")
For instructions on loading tab paper into the drawer, Document Insertion/Folding Unit, or Document Insertion Unit, see "Maintenance."
If [Unfinished Tab Paper Forced Output] in Function Settings (from the Settings/Registration screen) is set to 'On', the extra amount of tab paper sheets that were not required for the job are forced out of the machine.
Example: If the number of tabs is set to 5 and the machine estimates that seven sheets of tab paper are needed for the print job, you must prepare two sets of tab paper each containing five tabs (10 total). Therefore, if the machine only uses seven tab paper sheets, three tab paper sheets will remain.
Areas of images shifted outside the tab paper cannot be printed on the paper, and may cause the following prints to have black streaks or appear dirty.
Example: Areas of images may shift outside the tab paper.
